  1. I can't say enough about Dr Temple Grandin! I finally got my 14 yr old daughter (who is higher functioning on the spectrum)to watch the movie with me about 2-3 months ago! My daughter could not beleive that this woman she didn't know actually knew what she was going through and communicated it so well..and when she saw how successful Dr Grandin has become, it just inpspired her so much. Right after the movie my daughter asked to look her up on youtube.. we found the "My Experience With Autism" speech and Brea was glued to the screen..she couldn't get enough of her! When it was over she had so many feelings, mostly of excitement that she found someone that not only knows what she goes through but can also verbalize it very well to others! She has given my daughter a new spark in life.. as she had been bullied so much by other students making fun of her autism and how it makes her stand out. and now hearing Dr Grandin speak out about autism and to see how successful she is, she now has the mindset that nothing can stop her! She hopes and dreams to meet Dr Grandin one day!

  2. I was struck by how adamantly Temple Grandin stressed the importance of stretching our kids, of not over protecting them. She was insistent (and rightly so) that we need to teach our children with autism basic skills, basic manners, so that they'll have a better chance of functioning in society. Autism does not equal FREE pass for our kids!

  3. I'm just so bummed we didn't get to see her! I didn't realize she was doing so many other things in town other than the Peek Award event. I've previously seen some of her speeches on youtube, though, and she's just so captivating, motivating, and amazing. Her biggest influence on me has been giving me the sight to see the importance of continuing to push my sons along.

  4. "Find their strengths...and build on those. Don't worry about what they can't do..." She's right - I can take Ty's strengths and expand them to help him live the life of his dreams.
