So, here it is the night before Ty turns 16.  Wow!  This is one milestone that I really couldn't imagine happening.  Looking back at everything that we have gone through to get to this point - and amazed that we are still alive with all our body parts intact.  Unfortunately, my celebration of survival is dampened by my heartache and loss.  We should be getting his drivers license, preparing for that all important first date, getting him ready for his new responsibilities in our church, going to swim practice...  But we're not.  And we won't.  And that sucks.  But as I listen to his 'joyous noises' coming from the other room as he watches Aristocats, in Russian, on his IPad, in his swimming suit, I have to remind myself that I"m the only one not having a good time right now.  He's happy - he's healthy - he's loved.    Happy Birthday Ty!

Hey, I won't have to pay car insurance....

  3. Funny, I actually just wrote a post somewhat similar to this on my blog. My son with ASD just turned 9. Thanks for your honesty and yet sharing your positive outlook at the same time!
